Billionaire lifestyle: Hurun India’s Wealth Report and Luxury Consumer Survey 2025 was released earlier this week. Marking the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz Hurun India Index (MBHX), this is a yardstick measurement of wealth and provides a composite number of billionaires and their lifestyle.

As per the report, India now has 8,71,700 millionaire households, and Maharashtra leads with 1,78,600 millionaire households, with Mumbai alone hosting 1,42,000 of them and emerging as the “Millionaire Capital”. With a sudden boom in overseas investment, the USA secured the top spot, followed efficiently by the UAE. However, the report also provides great insight into the most popular destination billionaires travel to and it might not be the destination you guessed.

While all the listed ones are developed and attract more than 20 million tourists annually, a significant share also goes to unlisted countries. Here’s what India’s Luxury Consumer 2025 says about millionaire vacations.

Singapore to Greece: Where are millionaires travelling?

The Hurun survey found that 11% of India’s rich prefer Singapore as an overseas travel destination. While it not only offers world-class luxury, it houses Asia’s most high-end luxury hotels such as the Marina Bay Sands, Raffles, and The Capella. Critically acclaimed five-star restaurants, Singapore exudes luxury. Apart from the luxuries, Singapore is a major business and finance hub. A major driver of private wealth, it is also one of the top choices for millionaire migrations.

Both the United Kingdom and Switzerland share the second spot for attracting 9% of high-net-worth individuals. Located in the heart of Europe, not only are these regions known for exquisite beauty, but also a strategic option for travel. While France and Greece are European vacation spots too, only 5% millionaires prefer to go there. France houses one of the most prominent fashion capitals of the world, Paris. With the iconic LVMH situated in this hexagonal country, millionaires really know the value of luxury.

With labels they cannot live without, Paris can provide that all. Similarly, for Greece, offering luxurious stays, this is a historical town that millionaires adore. Situated near Milan, it is also the most popular destination for haute couture, with brands like Prada headlining the show.

Australia and the USA remain close at 8% with millionaires flocking to the buzzing financial centres. As they remain starkly opposite, not just in geography, the US is one of the primary drivers of capitalist gains. With Singapore topping the tally, Asian countries like Japan and the Maldives attract significantly fewer millionaires. Ranking respectively and 7% and 6%, both these regions have a niche attraction.

Japan is known for its accurate attention to detail, making it the epitome of luxury production. The Maldives is often featured as this beach wonderland. Often featured on social media, the Maldives has always been associated with lavish stays, luxurious treatments, and an overall extravagant experience.

While Dubai is one of the most significant destinations attracting millionaires, the UAE attracts 7% millionaires, as per the Hurun survey. With attractive tax conditions and returns on investment, Dubai is known for its world-class safety, cleanliness, and ease of travel.
