Social media has become a great platform for user-generated content. With every other person sharing new information and advice on social media, there is a lot of information overload, which may or may not be suitable for everyone. Following such advice blindly can lead to more harmful effects than positive ones. One such example is lemongrass tea.

Generally consumed to improve digestion, for detoxification, weight loss, and other benefits, this tea has its side effects too, if taken without expert guidance. For people who suffer from health problems like blood pressure, kidney problems, or pregnant women, lemongrass tea can have more side effects than benefits.

Who should not have lemongrass tea?

Listed below are some circumstances under which people should avoid consuming lemongrass tea:

Avoid it during pregnancy

Pregnant women should avoid lemongrass consumption as it can severely affect their blood pressure. So, pregnant women should only consume it after consulting a doctor.

People with low blood pressure

Lemongrass tea is a natural fluid pill; thus, it helps to release excess water and sodium from the body. Thus, it can affect the diabetic patient seriously. It can lead to low blood pressure and cause problems like weakness, fainting, and dizziness.

People with kidney and liver issues

Lemongrass tea can be harmful for people with kidney or liver problems, as it helps to detoxify the body. Therefore, people with related problems should avoid lemongrass tea consumption.

For people on medication

Lemongrass is not for people who consume medicines, specifically, people who take medicines related to diabetes, blood thinners, blood pressure, or kidneys. It can reduce or increase the effect, which can lead to further health issues. Thus, it should be consumed only after taking proper advice from the doctor.

People with allergies

Some people may be allergic to lemongrass. If you experience any allergic reactions like swelling, skin allergy, itching, or difficulty in breathing, then you should immediately stop consuming the tea.

Lemongrass tea, therefore, may be suitable for many people, but it cannot be consumed by everyone. Pregnant women, people with blood pressure problems, and people with kidney- and liver-related issues should be careful while consuming lemongrass tea. If people with these problems want to consume it, they should surely consult a doctor to avoid any risk.
