Director SS Rajamouli has unveiled plans for “Baahubali: Crown of Blood,” an animated series expanding the rich universe of his monumental two-part saga, Baahubali. Set within the fictional realm of Mahishmati, the blockbuster success of the Baahubali films catapulted Telugu cinema onto the national and global stage, boasting a stellar cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia.

Rajamouli teased the title announcement for the series on his official X page, promising the imminent arrival of the trailer. “When the people of Mahishmati chant his name, no force in the universe can stop him from returning. Baahubali: Crown of Blood, an animated series trailer, arrives soon!” he exclaimed.

S.S. Rajamouli said in a statement, “The world of Baahubali is vast, and the film franchise was the perfect introduction to the same. However, there’s so much more to explore, and that’s where Baahubali: Crown of Blood comes into the picture. This story will reveal for the first time many unknown twists in the lives of Baahubali and Bhallaladeva and a dark secret long forgotten as the two brothers must save Mahishmati. We are extremely happy to introduce this new chapter to Baahu’s fans and to bring this story in an animated format, which brings a new, exciting look to the world of Baahubali. Arka Mediaworks and I are delighted to collaborate with Sharad Devarajan, Disney+Hotstar, and Graphic India as we reshape Indian animation for a broader audience beyond kids.”

Rana Dagubatti, actor who played Bhallaladeva in the Baahubali franchise said, “The film franchise of Baahubali has built its legacy; I am excited to see the legacy being continued with animated storytelling format. This new chapter of Baahubali and Bhallaladeva’s life will unfold many more mysteries of the Baahubali world. I am thrilled that S.S. Rajamouli, Sharad Devarajan, Disney+Hotstar, Arka Mediaworks and Graphic India are bringing this new chapter of Baahubali’s world in an animated format that will introduce the world of Baahubali to the fans and newer audiences in an exciting way.”

Indian actor who played Baahubali in the successful Baahubali franchise, Prabhas said, “It’s an exciting time that Baahubali and Bhallaladeva are going to come together in this unseen chapter of Baahubali’s journey. Baahubali: Crown of Blood is a chapter that takes place before the story in the film franchise. It’s an important chapter in Baahu’s and Bhalla’s life. It’s wonderful that S.S. Rajamouli, Sharad Devarajan, Disney+Hotstar, Arka Mediaworks, and Graphic India are bringing this story to the world through this animated format. I cannot wait to watch this new chapter in Baahubali’s journey.”

Details regarding Rajamouli’s involvement in “Baahubali: Crown of Blood” remain undisclosed at this time.

The narrative arc of the franchise began with “Baahubali: The Beginning” in 2015, tracing the exploits of Sivudu, a daring young man aiding his beloved Avantika in rescuing Devasena, the erstwhile queen of Mahishmati held captive under the despotic reign of King Bhallaladeva. The first installment culminated with the gripping question: Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? This enigma was resolved in “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” in 2017.

Released in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, the two films collectively amassed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide. Moreover, the Baahubali franchise, featuring additional talents such as Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, and Nassar, gave rise to the Amazon Prime Video animated series “Baahubali: The Lost Legends” in 2017.
