Star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a lavish dinner at the White House last night. Posing alongside industry tycoons like Elon Musk, he was hosted at the Presidential residence by none other than Donald Trump himself. A surprise guest, Ronaldo, was among the last guests to be seated before Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, MBS, took his place at the Presidential table.

The face of the Saudi league, Ronaldo, not only made headlines for his unexpected attendance at a White House gala, but also for anonymous pages on social media – all because of his height. Netizens couldn’t help but notice that while Ronaldo stood taller than President Trump, the publicly available information on their height says otherwise. President Trump, on multiple occasions, has said that he measures 6 feet 3 inches, one of the tallest US Presidents after Lincoln and Johnson. However, fans and netizens were quick to note the football icon’s height, as he appeared visibly taller at 6’2” standing next to Trump.

Based on a simple Internet search of both the celebrities’ heights, it was found that there is a 0.03 metre or 1.81 inch difference between the two. Implying that Ronaldo, despite measuring 1.87 metres, seemed taller than Trump, who measures 1.9 metres. Several theories circulated on social media, trying to figure out the factual fallacy between claims and information available on the web. Sharing on Reddit, a user showed the two results, and a picture where Ronaldo looked significantly taller than Trump and wrote, “Someone lied.”

‘Old people shrink’

Several netizens jumped to Trump’s defence and wrote that it is ‘common knowledge’ that ‘old people shrink.’ They went on to justify that the Internet might not have recorded his latest height and held his posture responsible for this alleged illusion. Moreover, some users even claimed that since Ronaldo was wearing a certain type of elevated shoe, he appeared to be taller than Trump in the videos.

But the Internet did not hold back when it came to trolling this mismatch. They were quick to notice and suspect that ‘something’s off,’ as they wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “That can’t be Ronaldo, he’s only 6’2 tall, that guy must be at least 6’5 because Trump is 6’3, isn’t he?” another added. “Maybe Cristiano Ronaldo went to the White House to prove Trump’s not 6ft 3in,” a third wrote.

Trying to figure out who lied, a user shared on Reddit how height is an important piece of information that professional footballers cannot withhold. While others dismissed the debate earlier, as they had thought the video was AI-generated, pointing to the improbability of the crossover.

Trump on Ronaldo

Donald Trump, the host of the evening, shared that his youngest son was a big fan of Ronaldo. Thanking the celebrity sportsperson, Trump shared that his teen son was impressed that he got to meet his sports idol. “I think he respects his father a little bit more now, just the fact that I introduced you,” the president said.

In response to the playful bickering, Ronaldo was quick to point out that, “People know me more than him. In the world, nobody’s more famous than me.”
