AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes has sparked a stir on social media after he posted a picture of himself receiving a massage shirtless during a virtual meeting.
His now deleted LinkedIn post lauded the culture of both Indonesia and AirAsia, that lets one have a massage and having to manage a meeting simultaneously.
The post on Linkedin was put on the platform by Fernandes on October 16. The netizens were highly disturbed by the post which invited criticism for the act.
In the post, Fernandes discussed the recent progress the company had made, emphasizing the finalization of the Capital A structure and expressing his enthusiasm for the future.
Although the post garnered 703 reactions, 96 comments, and 42 shares, it also drew sharp criticism from online users, some of whom found the post deeply inappropriate and concerning.
One commenter expressed concern about the comfort and safety of the women working in the company, suggesting that the power dynamics might prevent them from voicing their discomfort.
Despite his evident pride in the company’s achievements, the controversial nature of his post triggered significant backlash online, with many urging him to consider the implications of such public displays, especially considering his influential position within the company.
One of the users said, “You could have wrapped up the meeting and then had your massage. I don’t think in a civilised culture this seems appropriate.”
Another wrote that it was “inappropriate and absurd”, and while someone else said it was “unprofessional”.
Concerned over the work culture with this behaviour another netizen wrote,”He should be setting an example of good work ethics and culture, not flaunting his body and privilege”.
Another user said,”Some CEOs need to stay off LinkedIn.”
