Nita Ambani, chairperson of the Reliance foundation, showcased the gloriousness of 0Indian tradition at a private reception ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. The event that was held in Washington DC, witnessed global dignitaries in attendance as they came together to mark their presence for the historic event. Accompanied by her husband Mukesh Ambani, she stood out with her stunning attire that paid tribute to India’s rich cultural heritage.
Nita Ambani wore a Kanchipuram silk saree, woven under the Swadesh initiative that supports Indian artisans. The saree has been designed by the National Award winner master weaver B Krishnamoorthy, which has more than 100 intricate motifs influenced by the spiritual and historical essence of Kanchipuram temples. It also has designs depicting Iruthalaipakshi representing Lord Vishnu, Sorgavasal animal trails from folklore and Mayil that symbolises divinity.
She matched the saree with a velvet blouse designed by Manish Malhotra, that added a contemporary touch to her traditional look.
Her attire was complemented by a rare 200-year old Indian pendant which has been crafted in Southern India. This parrot shaped piece has been embellished with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls displaying India’s rich jewellery craftsmanship.
By wearing these on an international stage ,Nita Ambani paid homage to the skills of Indian artisans . Her choice of the dress highlighted the beauty and value of preserving age old crafts in the modern era.
Ambani’s presence at the event underlined the importance of cultural diplomacy and showcasing traditional Indian heritage in front of a global audience.
