Travel trends in India continued to change in 2025, with more people choosing experiences over annual holidays. While family vacations remained popular, many travellers looked for spiritual journeys, short breaks, beach destinations and lesser-known international destinations.
According to Google’s Year in Search 2025 report, travel-related searches showed a clear rise across both domestic and international destinations. Along with overseas trips, religious and culturally significant places within India saw strong interest.
Kumbh Mela, Uttar Pradesh
The Maha Kumbh Mela was one of the biggest travel highlights of the year. Held in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26, the event took place after 144 years. Millions of devotees and visitors attended the world’s largest religious gathering, making it one of the most searched destinations in India.
The Philippines
The Philippines emerged as a popular international destination for Indian travellers. The country’s decision to allow visa-free entry for Indians for up to 14 days boosted interest. Travel searches from India rose sharply, with many planning island holidays and beach breaks.
Georgia
Georgia gained popularity as a budget-friendly European destination. Known for its landscapes, food and history, the country saw growing interest from Indian tourists. Its association with Indian film shoots and easy travel options contributed to the rise in searches during the year.
Mauritius
Mauritius continued to attract Indian travellers for luxury holidays, destination weddings and family trips. The visa-free policy made travel easier. The island nation also became a preferred choice for corporate travel, meetings and incentive tours.
Kashmir
Despite security concerns earlier in the year, Kashmir remained one of the most searched domestic destinations. The Valley continued to draw visitors with its scenic beauty. In 2024, it recorded over 2.35 crore tourists, and the trend remained strong in 2025.
Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc, a beach destination in Southeast Asia, gained attention among Indian travellers. Its rising popularity was supported by pop culture references and increased online visibility. The island became a preferred choice for relaxed beach holidays.
Phuket
Phuket remained one of the most searched international destinations from India. Known for its beaches, nightlife and accessibility, it continued to attract Indian tourists. In 2024, Phuket also emerged as Thailand’s highest-earning tourism province.
Maldives
The Maldives retained its position as a top luxury travel destination for Indians. In 2025, the country crossed its annual tourism target of 2 million visitors ahead of schedule, marking one of its strongest tourism years.
Somnath
Somnath featured prominently in spiritual travel searches. The temple town in Gujarat saw increased interest following infrastructure development and improved facilities for pilgrims.
Pondicherry
Pondicherry remained a popular destination for short trips and year-end holidays. Known for its French architecture, beaches and relaxed atmosphere, it continued to attract travellers looking for slow travel and cultural experiences.
