Deepinder Goyal was born into a humble family in Muktsar, Punjab. He did his schooling at DAV College, Chandigarh, and then enrolled in the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in 2001. In 2005, he graduated with a B.Tech degree in Mathematics and Computing.

He first launched Foodiebay.com along with his colleague Pankaj Chaddah in 2008. In 2010, Foodiebay.com rebranded itself as Zomato.com.
