Having a second home away from the chaos of city life is a dream many of us have. A peaceful place surrounded by nature, mountains, and calm skies is all a person wishes for to be his escape. Though not everyone gets to live that dream, but, actor Suniel Shetty certainly does. His beautiful hilltop bungalow in Khandala, which he lovingly calls ‘Jahaan,’ is a perfect example of a ‘dream house’.
Built nearly two decades ago by Suniel and his wife Mana Shetty, this 20 crore property is much more than a weekend getaway. It’s a warm, earthy home filled with memories, greenery, and love.
Inside Suniel Shetty’s Khandala home
Suniel Shetty once gave fans a rare look into his home through Asian Paints’ “Where The Heart Is” series. Welcoming viewers, he shared that every corner of ‘Jahaan’ has been created with passion and purpose.
“When you’re building a home, it’s all about passion,” he said during the walkthrough. “Only if you create magic at home can you create that magic outside. Home is about being happy, being able to do what I want to do, and being who I am,” he further added.
From the moment you step inside, you can feel that energy. The home is full of earthy tones, browns, greens, and rusts and is full of natural light. Plants grow abundantly inside and outside the house, making it feel like you’re in the lap of nature.
Suniel Shetty’s favourite corner in Jahaan
Shetty begins the tour by introducing his favourite spot, which he fondly calls ‘My Space.’ With a high ceiling and warm natural textures, it’s the perfect place to unwind. “I’m obsessed with plants, nature, and wood,” he shares with AsianPaints
The design brings the outdoors inside, wooden beams, stone walls, and large glass windows that open to stunning views of the surrounding hills. Every room feels connected to nature, whether it’s through sunlight filtering in or the greenery peeking from every corner.
Every Mangalorean’s favourite room: The dining area
For Suniel Shetty, food and family go hand in hand. “Every Mangalorean’s favourite room is the dining room,” he shares, leading the way to a spacious area where memories are made over home-cooked meals.
The dining area is one of the most beautiful parts of the house as it opens up to a green garden on one side, with a large table placed to enjoy both the food and the view. The space has a retractable roof which makes them feel like they’re dining under the stars.
The interiors continue the earthy theme, wood-coloured marble floors, pendant lighting, and glass walls that bring in plenty of sunlight. There’s also a collection of unique masks that the actor has gathered over the years, adding a personal and artistic touch to the décor.
A garden full of life
If there’s one thing that truly defines Suniel Shetty’s Khandala home, it’s the lush greenery that surrounds it. The actor often spends hours in his garden. He even shared that the greenery around his bungalow comes from his childhood memories in Mulki, a small town in Karnataka where he grew up.
His garden today houses over 300 trees, and he often spends time trimming bushes, planting vegetables, and tending to fruit trees. The property also has beautiful sculptures, including statues of Lord Shiva and Gautam Buddha, as well as a small canal with a bridge crossing it.
The Den: Suniel Shetty’s peaceful escape
One of Suniel’s favourite areas is his den, which he calls his personal retreat from Mumbai’s busy life. “The minute I enter, it’s mine. Nothing stresses me out here,” he says .
The den reflects his love for comfort and simplicity, soft lighting, earthy furniture, and large open windows that let in the cool Khandala breeze. What makes the space unique is how it was designed around the natural contours of the land. The builders worked around existing boulders and rocks instead of removing them, keeping the essence of the hillside intact. “It reminds us of the land as it once was,” he explains.
A connection to his roots
Suniel Shetty’s Khandala home is not just a luxury property, it’s an emotional space where every wall and window tells a story. He calls a large section of his property the ‘pre-climax’, which leads to an outdoor area filled with plants and open space. “It’s all about nature, sustainability, protecting the environment, and creating a world of your own,” he says.
The actor believes that his home mirrors his journey, from a small-town boy in Mangaluru to a Bollywood star who still values simplicity. “I’m reliving my childhood in every possible way,” he says, adding that his son Ahan Shetty and daughter Athiya Shetty now share those same memories there.
‘Jahaan’ isn’t just Suniel and Mana Shetty’s home, it’s a place where generations come together. The family spends weekends here relaxing, gardening, and enjoying quiet evenings away from the city’s noise.
The house also holds a special place in their hearts because it was the venue for Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul’s wedding.
