Genelia D’Souza always gets her fashion game on point, without fail. At the promotional event for her upcoming Telugu release Junior, Genelia paid tribute to Indian craftsmanship and traditional weaves in a stunning handwoven jamdani lehenga crafted by Gaurang Shah. Genelia herself has always been an advocate for traditional Indian weaves.
Genelia’s khadi Jamdani lehenga
The khadi Jamdani lehenga is from Shah’s Rang Raas collection. The outfit, woven entirely by hand on a charkha in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, took 18 months to complete. Sharing glimpses of her look on Instagram, the actress paid homage to artisanal heritage, describing the outfit as “timeless.”
When you take a look at the intricate work on the off-white lehenga, the time it took to make this makes sense. The outfit featured vibrant floral motifs inspired by the lush Mughal gardens surrounding the Taj Mahal. The Persian-origin textile “jamdani” is a blend of the words jam (flower) and dani (vase). It’s a fitting nod to the intricate floral detailing that adorns this statement lehenga.
Genelia accessorised with heirloom jewellery from Kishandas & Co., including ornate chandbalis, a layered choker, traditional bangles, and floral hair ornaments, to go with the regal silhouette.

Genelia upcoming films
Joining Genelia at the Hyderabad promotional event were industry stalwarts like filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, actress Sreeleela, and actor Kireeti Reddy. Directed by Radhakrishna Reddy, Junior releases today, July 18.
On the work front, Genelia has several films in the pipeline, including Ram Gopal Varma’s horror-comedy Police Station Mein Bhoot and Gunmaster G9, where she stars alongside Emraan Hashmi.
Genelia was most recently seen in Aamir Khan’s film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna. The film might be seeing a steady decline at the box office, but it became Genelia’ highest grossing film of her career. The film, which is a thematic sequel to Taare Zameen Par in 2007, also introduces 10 neurodivergent kids.
