This year’s runway of Lakme Fashion Week is set to witness the most unique collaboration of Art and design as Tarun Tahiliani collaborates with Kohler to curate an exquisite collection titled “A Celebration of Self-Expression.” Tarun Tahiliani’s glamourous collection is inspired by Kohler’s colour, finish, and pattern. From infused iridescent rose golds to faded metallics, to regal peacock teals to deep royal indigos, matte greys, and timeless blacks, drawing inspiration from Kohler’s rich tapestry of vibrant colours and exquisite finishes. The collection also takes inspiration from the patterns and intricate line works of Kohler’s Artist Editions Aranya (Hindi for the forest) a creation by Pushpa Kumari on Madhubani art form.

How would you describe the significance of colour in the realms of bath space decor and fashion design?

Colour is the most significant element in India. We are a country of wonderful and varied colours. It is very much a part of our culture, and even though we have urbanized into more formal spaces, there are vast stretches of India, particularly north of Maharashtra, that use colour fantastically. This can be seen in places like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and even parts of Bengal that I have had the chance to visit. So, colour is very much a part of our day-to-day life, and I believe it should definitely be integrated into the bathing space.

How can one effectively blend their personal style to achieve their dream bath space?

There is no better way to blend one’s personal style and create their dream bathing space than by choosing what one truly feels. I wish more people would consider their bathrooms as an extension of their other rooms rather than treating them as separate spaces.

Could you describe a project where you successfully blended fashion and decor, and what were the challenges and rewards of such a collaboration?

Most of our projects successfully blend fashion and decor. We approach home decor with a fashion-oriented perspective, considering aspects like colour, proportion, and, most importantly, utility. The combination of these three, in my opinion, is a winning mix.

What advice would you give to homeowners looking to infuse a touch of couture and luxury into their bath spaces through decor and design?

I think each individual should decide what constitutes couture and luxury in their bathing space. Many people want their baths to be their zen meditative space, a place where they spend most of their time alone. It’s a space where you can unwind and think. Therefore, I believe it’s a crucial part of decor and should be an extension of the elements that play on your senses and soothe you at the beginning or end of a long day.”
