He later expanded into properties in Oregon and Los Angeles before selling almost all of them and choosing to live in a $50,000 prefabricated home near SpaceX in Texas. Musk’s biographer, Walter Isaacson, shared a post on social media giving a rare inside look at the home. “In 2020, Musk decided to sell his five grand houses and to have as his primary residence be this spartan two-bedroom house in Boca Chica, TX, where we would meet and he would sit at this wood table and make phone calls.”

Musk has owned everything from a Ford Model T and a Jaguar E-Type Roadster to a McLaren F1. He also kept a Tesla Roadster, the company’s first model, which he launched into space in 2018. One of his most unusual purchases is the Lotus Esprit submarine car from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, according to The Guardian. He reportedly purchased it at an auction with the idea of restoring its underwater functionality.
Private jets
Musk is also known to invest heavily in private jets, particularly Gulfstream models worth tens of millions of dollars. He uses them to move quickly between his company sites and for international travel. He calls them essential as it helps him keep up with his demanding work schedule.
