U.S. President Donald Trump left Secret Service agents feeling “nervous” when he danced with a military sword in hand during the cake-cutting ceremony at the Commander-in-Chief ball. The sword was given to him for the ceremonial cake cutting at the inaugural event, but Trump began dancing to the tune of the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” playing in the background. Melania Trump also took the stage, moving to the rhythm of the music.
Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha Vance were also present on the stage with the president and his wife. Also Vance jokingly stated that the Secret Service seemed “very nervous” as Trump grooved to the steps.
YMCA a staple at Trump’s inauguration
“Y.M.C.A.” has become a familiar anthem at many of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” rallies. He first referenced the song during a 2018 rally in Mississippi, where he used it to make a point about trade deals. “Now we’re replacing the horrible job-killing Nafta with a brand new US-Mexico-Canada agreement, a really good deal for us,” he said, before singing the chorus, “Y-M-C-A!”. He also mentioned that people who struggle to remember the trade deal should think of the song, mentioning the love and admiration for the track.
