The king of fruits, mango, has made it big globally, capturing the hearts of many with its versatility and delightful taste. For countless Indians, summer is synonymous with the sweet and tangy flavours of mangoes. Recently, two Indian mango delicacies have garnered international acclaim, securing top spots on Taste Atlas’ list of the ’10 Best Dishes with Mango’. The scrumptious aamras, clinched the number one position, while the tangy and versatile mango chutney ranked fifth.
Aamras, a dish cherished in the western states of India like Maharashtra and Gujarat, is a mildly sweetened mango pulp often paired with puris.

Taste Atlas describes it as a simple yet adaptable dish: “It is sometimes merely elevated with the addition of saffron, dry ginger, or cardamom, but its simplicity allows room for alteration and the creation of numerous varieties.”
Mango chutney, the fifth-ranked delicacy, has ripe mango as its base ingredient. This flavorful condiment includes a medley of spices such as ginger, garlic, red chili peppers, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, brown sugar, and vinegar. Taste Atlas highlights the diversity of this dish: “There’s quite a few mango chutney variations made with different additional ingredients.”
Adding to its accolades, mango chutney was also featured in Taste Atlas’s ranking of the ’50 Best Dips in the World’.
