Rajesh Rajan, who founded and leads the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists (IACC), has secured a seat on the Specialist Board in Cardiology under the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). His election comes as the board begins a wide review of how cardiology is taught and assessed at the postgraduate level in India.
The Specialist Board met on August 6, 2025, to examine proposed changes to the cardiology curriculum and consider ways to strengthen the exam system. The group focused on bringing in new clinical practices, keeping pace with fast-moving cardiovascular technologies, and updating training standards to reflect current patient needs.
According to NBEMS officials, the board will continue its discussions over the next few months as it works toward a modern, forward-looking cardiology training framework. Rajan is expected to add strong clinical perspective and academic depth to the process.
In addition, Rajan was recently recognised with the Outstanding Contribution to Cardiac Research Award for his significant work in the field.
