Zubeen Garg death reason: Celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, famous for his song ‘Ya Ali,’ passed away on September 19 in Singapore. He was set to perform at the North East India Music Festival, but took a fatal plunge during a yacht party. He was accompanied by his bandmate, co-vocalist, and others. The Assam SIT, till now, has arrested five accused in the matter which also includes his cousin and personal security officers, too. As per the Singapore Police statement, no trace of ‘foul play’ has been detected. However, they revealed that a full-scale investigation might take up to 3 months. To fast-track the process, Assam SIT officers are set to meet Singapore Police officials on October 21.

To honour the demise of the legendary music personality, the 10th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) has been postponed to 2026. Scheduled for December 4 to 7, 2025, Assam’s cultural society took a collective decision to announce the postponement via social media.

Zubeen Garg death probe: Latest updates

Preliminary findings from the Singapore Police investigation found no evidence of foul play. However, they urged the fans and general public not to spread ‘false information’ on social media, since Zubeen Garg’s death cause is not officially known, yet. The probe into the 52-year-old singer’s death is set to be fast-tracked after Assam CM Himanta Sarma Biswas announced SIT’s visit to Singapore to meet the concerned authorities. They aim to file their chargesheet by November.

Meanwhile, protests erupted outside Baksa Jail in Assam after the detained, including Zubeen’s manager, the event organiser, his personal security officials, and his cousin, were brought to court. Charges, including murder, culpable homicide, and conspiracy, have been filed in Assam, while Singapore continues the police and coroner’s investigation. A group of NRIs from the Assamese Association in Singapore have also been summoned for questioning by Assam CID.
