Zubeen Garg death probe: Zubeen Garg, the celebrated singer from Assam, passed away on September 19. Taking a fatal plunge into the waters of Singapore, he was set to perform at the North East India Festival on the following day. As the SIT investigation is underway, a total of four arrests have been made so far, including Zubeen Garg’s bandmate Shekhar Goswami and female co-singer Amritpava Mahanta.
Spokespersons from the SIT revealed that Goswami was seen in videos, swimming in close proximity to Garg. Just before the singer was discovered floating face down, Mahanta was recording the events on her mobile phone. This comes days after Garg’s manager, Siddhartha Sharma and the NEIF organiser, Shyamkanu Mahanta, were detained upon their return to India.
The manager and event organiser have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death. The singer’s wife, Garima Garg, had previously expressed full faith in the justice system and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
How did Zubeen Garg die?
While the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswas Sarma, made detailed revelations about the reasons for the singer’s death, there has been no clear report on how exactly the singer died. However, he revealed that Garg jumped into the water with a life jacket, but returned to the yacht to take it off, seconds after diving in. Denying the scuba-diving claims, Garima Garg also revealed that Garg had faced seizures in the past, too. In an interview, she told NDTV that, in the videos, she claimed are incomplete, Zubeen seemed exhausted.
As per reports, Garg’s bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, also used to work at the singer’s studio as a sound recordist. He was also the first person to reach him and pull him out of the water when the singer seemed to be floating lifelessly and not responding. CID also revealed that there might be further arrests, in relation to Garg’s death, including the eight NRI individuals present on the yacht.
