Kamini Kaushal death: Bollywood‘s veteran actress Kamini Kaushal has passed away at the age of 98, reported PTI. India’s oldest living actress, she appeared in nearly 100 films and debuted with a Cannes-awarded film. While the exact cause of the death is unknown, her family has confirmed the news and has requested privacy. Started her career in 1946, she had also appeared in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chadha in 2022.
Having held the title of the highest-paid actress of Bollywood, she had starred opposite the holy trinity of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, and Dev Anand. Her debut film, Neecha Nagar, won the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. As per a Times Now report, her family quoted, “Kamini Kaushal’s family is extremely low profile, and wants privacy.” The unfortunate news comes after the passing of other Bollywood legends, Asrani and Satish Shah, over the past month.

Kamini Kaushal was born Uma Kashyap on February 24 in 1927. With a celebrated career spanning across seven decades, her timeless screen presence made her one of the brightest gems in Bollywood. WIth a BA in English, she was one of the very few actresses, in her time, with a college degree and had played lead roles in nearly 100 films.
From romantic roles to drama-laden roles, she has appeared opposite notable Bollywood actors like Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Shahid Kapoor. While the younger generations remember her from films like Chennai Express or Kabir Singh, she has several notable names in her roster. Some of her most famous films include, Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, Shabnam, Arzoo and Biraj Bahu. Do Bhai, Ziddi, Shabnam, Paras, Namoona, Jhanjar, Aabroo, Bade Sarkar, Jailor, Night Club, and Godaan.

Kaushal won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 1956 for her iconic role in Biraj Bahu. Later, in 2015, she was conferred with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and was Filmfare magazine’s first cover girl. “A trailblazer, a powerhouse performer, and a beloved face of Indian cinema. She leaves behind an unforgettable legacy,” the outlet shared on X (formerly Twitter).
She also appeared in Doordarshan serials like Chand Sitare, making her an even popular name in Indian households. She will always be remembered as a symbol of grace, talent, and dedication, and will be remembered with great respect.
