Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada, Kap’s Cafe, is back in business just over a week after a shocking shooting incident outside its premises. The cafe, located in Surrey, British Columbia, had temporarily shut its doors after multiple gunshots were fired in the early hours of July 10.

Taking to Instagram, comedian and actor Kapil Sharma expressed his pride in the team’s resilience. He reposted the cafe’s announcement of the reopening and wrote, “Proud of you team,” applauding their courage during a difficult time.

According to the Surrey Police, the shooting occurred at around 1:50 am local time. Although several staff members were inside the cafe at the time, thankfully, no one was injured. The incident left at least 10 bullet holes in one of the cafe’s windows and shattered another windowpane.

The cafe is located in a mixed-use building that houses shops at the ground level and residential apartments above. Nearby, a multi-faith centre and two other businesses are yet to open. The daycare across the street was cordoned off with police tape after the incident, reported the Vancouver Sun, while investigators collected evidence inside the cafe.

‘A Message From Heart’

In a heartfelt message titled “A Message From Heart”, the cafe staff described the shooting as “heartbreaking” and said they were still in shock. “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking,” read the statement.

Despite the trauma, the team said they were determined not to let violence win. “We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up,” the message added. The team thanked the local community for their overwhelming support and also acknowledged the Surrey Police for their help and quick response.

“Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know,” they wrote. “Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”

Meanwhile, Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said the police are aware of reports in Indian media suggesting that a Khalistani separatist has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, officials have not confirmed any motive yet, and investigations are ongoing.
