Actor and comedian Robo Shankar passed away at the age of 46 after collapsing on a film set in Chennai on Thursday evening. His sudden death has left the entire Tamil film industry in shock. Shankar, who was known for his comic timing and lively presence on the screen had been keeping unwell for the past few days.
According to reports, he fainted and was later admitted to a private hospital in Chennai. As per The Hindu, Dr. S. Asokan, CEO of GEM Hospital, confirmed that he was brought in with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiple organ failure caused by a complex abdominal condition. Despite best efforts from the doctors, his health deteriorated quickly, and he breathed his last around 8:30 pm on Thursday.
Over the years, Robo Shankar had a special place in Tamil cinema and television with his unique style of comedy and performances. His sudden passing has left a huge void, with tributes pouring in from fans and actors.
As per India Today, Robo Shankar’s mortal remains will be taken to his residence in Chennai. His last rites are expected to be performed on Friday. He is survived by his wife, Priyanka Sankar, and their daughter, Indraja Shankar.
Who was Robo Shankar?
Robo Shankar was a well-known actor and comedian in the Tamil film and TV world. He got the nickname ‘Robo.’
Due to his unique ‘robot-style’ dance and acting, he got the nickname ‘Robo,’ which made him rise to fame. He started his film career in 1997, first appearing in small, uncredited roles, including a small role that he played in Rajinikanth’s Padayappa. He rose to fame after Vijay Sethupathi’s Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara. This made audience notice his talent and dedication towards his work.
He acted in many Tamil films including Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Maari, Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran, Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru, Si3, Pa Paandi, Velaikkaran, Viswasam, Irumbu Thirai, and Singapore Saloon.

In his message, Haasan wrote, “Robo Shankar. Robo is just a name. To me, you were always human. You’re like my younger brother. How could you just leave like this? Your job is done, but mine is not. You left us too soon.”
