Aamir Khan’s latest film Sitaare Zameen Par continues to maintain its upward graph at the Indian box office, surpassing the lifetime domestic earnings of Salman Khan’s high-profile action film Sikandar. On its 12th day in cinemas, the inspirational sports drama collected Rs 4 crore, slightly ahead of its Monday figure of Rs 3.75 crore — its lowest single-day performance so far.

The film, which had a steady run through its opening week with daily earnings ranging between Rs 6-9 crore, picked up over its second weekend with Rs 12.6 crore and Rs 14.5 crore recorded on Saturday and Sunday respectively. According to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par has amassed a total of Rs 130.4 crore at the domestic box office, leaving past Sikandar, which wrapped up with Rs 129.95 crore.

The film is also outpacing its current box office competitor, Maa, a mythological horror project helmed by Vishal Furia and starring Kajol. Backed by Ajay Devgn and rooted in the universe of last year’s supernatural hit Shaitaan, Maa garnered Rs 2.85 crore on Tuesday, taking its five-day domestic total to Rs 23 crore.

The coming weekend promises a fresh box office contest as two new releases will join the box office battle. On July 4, Anurag Basu’s ensemble romantic drama Metro… In Dino is set to hit theatres. The anthology film features a star-studded cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Pankaj Tripathi. Produced by Bhushan Kumar under the T-Series banner, the film is positioned as a thematic successor to Basu’s 2007 hit Life… In a Metro.

Also releasing this Friday is the Hindi dubbed version of Jurassic World Rebirth, a sci-fi action adventure directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali. Despite the incoming competition, industry analysts expect Sitaare Zameen Par to remain strong at the box office, potentially seeing another boost during its third weekend.

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is produced by Aamir Khan in collaboration with Aparna Purohit and Ravi Bhagchandka. Released on June 20, Sitaare Zameen Par is described as a spiritual successor to Aamir’s critically acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The narrative follows a basketball coach, portrayed by Khan, who mentors a group of 10 neurodivergent individuals.

Genelia Deshmukh features as Sunita, wife of Gulshan in the story, with supporting performances by Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal. The film also marks the debut of Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, and Naman Mishra.

Rounding out the cast alongside Aamir are Samvit Desai, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, and Simran Mangeshkar. The original Taare Zameen Par saw Aamir play a compassionate schoolteacher guiding a young boy with dyslexia, a performance that earned widespread acclaim.
