The Mohit Suri-directed romantic drama Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, finally has an OTT release date. All the speculation over when it is releasing on OTT ended after Yash Raj Films’ casting director Shanoo Sharma revealed the streaming date.
Saiyaara OTT release date
Sharma, in an Instagram story, reshared a post that showed the film’s poster along with the caption, “Streaming from September 12, Netflix.” However, Netflix and the production house have yet to issue an official confirmation.
According to several earlier reports, Netflix acquired the digital rights for Saiyaara. Even though there was no official confirmation on the date of release, the film wass expected to hit the OTT platform approximately eight weeks after its theatrical release, if it followed the classic release model. Media reports predicted Saiyaara’s OTT launch to happen sometime in late September or early October. However, those claims are not true.
Saiyaara box office collection
Released in cinemas on July 18, Saiyaara has had a massively impressive run at the box office. As per figures from industry tracker Sacnilk, the film added approximately Rs 1.35 crore on its fourth Monday, bringing its 25-day domestic total to Rs 319.85 crore. Globally, it has amassed over Rs 531 crore gross, with Rs 382.5 crore from India and Rs 148.5 crore from overseas markets.
The film opened to a record-breaking first weekend for an Indian romantic drama, earning Rs 83 crore net in its first three days, surpassing Shahid Kapoor–Kiara Advani’s Kabir Singh, which had earned Rs 71 crore net.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, director Mohit Suri revealed that the concept for Saiyaara initially emerged as a pitch for Aashiqui 3, which was planned with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt. “I know, they have a very sensitive relationship. They are friends at times, and then they are not. So, I thought of this idea for Aashiqui 3, which is now Saiyaara. But they were in a hurry and wanted to announce, which is something I was not comfortable with. I prefer having a script first and then making an announcement. But to sum it up, yes, this idea was originally for Aashiqui 3,” Suri shared.
What is the plot of Saiyaara?
The film chronicles Vaani (Aneet Padda), who is left heartbroken when her partner leaves her moments before their court wedding. Months later, when she is trying to get her life back together, she joins a new workplace and meets Krish (Ahaan Panday). He is an aspiring singer nursing his own emotional wounds. As the two bond over their past traumas, they form a deep connection that gradually blossoms into love.
