The record-shattering streak of Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar continues to scale new heights as it enters the new year. In a significant move to honour the film’s contribution to regional tourism and cinematic representation, the Ladakh Administration has officially extended its support to the Ranveer Singh-starrer, ensuring its momentum remains unstoppable.
The announcement adds another feather to the cap of a film that has already redefined modern Box Office collections. By removing the financial barrier of entertainment tax, the government aims to celebrate a project that celebrates the rugged, breath-taking beauty of the Union Territory to a global audience.
A cinematic tribute to the highlands
The Ladakh Lieutenant Governor, Kavinder Gupta, officially declared on Friday, January 2, 2026, that Dhurandhar would be granted tax-free status across the region. This decision is a clear appreciative gesture for the production’s commitment to filming extensively within the UT – effectively turning the movie into a grand visual brochure for the area’s scenic landscapes.
The Office of the Lt. Governor communicated the news through an official post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Lt Governor Shri @KavinderGupta declares Bollywood film ‘Dhurandhar’ tax-free in UT #Ladakh. Shot extensively in the region, the film spotlights Ladakh’s cinematic landscapes, signalling strong support for filmmakers and reinforcing the UT’s push to emerge as a preferred destination for film shoots and tourism.” The administration further emphasized its dedication to the arts, noting, “The Administration is also working on a New Film Policy and will provide full support to film productions in Ladakh.”
Rewriting Box Office history
While the tax-free status provides a local boost, the film’s national performance has been nothing short of legendary. Dhurandhar has achieved a feat never before seen in the history of Indian cinema, maintaining a grip on the audience that typically fades days after a release.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted this unprecedented longevity on X, writing: “‘DHURANDHAR’ – THE FIRST FILM TO HIT A CENTURY IN WEEK 4… #Dhurandhar shows no signs of slowing down, adding yet another historic milestone to its extraordinary run… It becomes the FIRST #Hindi film ever to cross the Rs 100 cr mark in its fourth week.”
The statistics back up the hype. The film recorded a massive Rs 115.70 crore in its fourth week alone – a figure that dwarfs previous records held by blockbusters like Pushpa 2 (Rs 57.95 cr) and Stree 2 (Rs 37.75 cr).
Furthermore, it holds the unique distinction of being the only Hindi film to register double-digit collections for 28 consecutive days. With an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan, Aditya Dhar’s directorial venture has not only provided a perfect closure to 2025 but has also set a daunting benchmark for every release in 2026.
