Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar’s highly anticipated film Don 3 has reportedly hit another setback. While the project was earlier said to be back on track, with Ranveer Singh preparing for the role and the shoot expected to start by the end of January 2026, recent reports indicate that the actor has decided to step away from the film.
Dhurandhar’s massive success influences Ranveer’s decision
The move comes as Ranveer Singh continues to enjoy the phenomenal success of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. The film is steadily approaching the Rs 600 crore nett mark in India and is expected to achieve this milestone by Thursday. With the New Year holidays boosting audience turnout, Dhurandhar’s fourth week is projected to be strong, and the total collections could come close to Rs 700 crore nett by the end of its theatrical run.
Ranveer wants to explore new projects
According to sources close to the development, Ranveer Singh’s decision to leave Don 3 is influenced by his desire to explore new projects and collaborate with different filmmakers. “With Dhurandhar’s massive success, Ranveer is very clear about the kind of films he wants to do next. He wants to work with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee. He also doesn’t want to appear in back-to-back gangster films, especially since Dhurandhar is already in that space,” a source told Pinkvilla.
Prioritizing Pralay
Ranveer is reportedly prioritizing another project titled Pralay, produced by Applause Entertainment. The film is a zombie-based thriller that tells a human story about how far a man will go to save his family in extreme circumstances. The source added, “Ranveer has asked producer Jai Mehta to prepone the shoot of Pralay. He is personally involved in aligning dates and schedules to ensure the film moves quickly now that he has stepped away from Don 3.”
Casting changes in Don 3
Don 3 had already faced casting changes before this development. The original leading lady, Kiara Advani, had exited the film after her pregnancy, and reports suggested that Kriti Sanon was brought in as her replacement. Despite Ranveer’s exit, the makers remain determined to start shooting by the end of January 2026 and have begun searching for a new male lead.
