One of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects, Ramayana, is also one of the most talked about movies in India right now. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the upcoming mythological epic boasts a stellar ensemble cast, with the who’s who of Indian cinema taking on iconic roles, and a production scale never before seen in Indian filmmaking.

While buzz around the film has been building for months, we finally have the list of the entire star cast of Ramayana. The film, which is being made in two parts, will debut in theatres on Diwali 2026.

Leading the cast is Ranbir Kapoor, who will portray Lord Rama, a role he has reportedly been preparing for with intense dedication. Opposite him, Sai Pallavi will play Mata Sita. Behind-the-scenes images from the film’s set had previously surfaced online, leading to a lot of excitement.

KGF star Yash has been cast as Ravana. Meanwhile, Sunny Deol steps into the role of Lord Hanuman, and reports suggest a standalone Hanuman-centric film may follow after the release of Ramayana’s two-part saga.

The supporting cast, too, is packed with veterans and fan favourites

The mythological epic saga will feature Arun Govil, who famously played Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s TV adaptation, now appearing as King Dasharath. Indira Krishnan plays Mata Kaushalya, and Lara Dutta takes on the pivotal role of Kaikeyi.

Sheeba Chaddha, known for her strong character work in films like Doctor G and Baby John, will portray the scheming Manthra. In the Lanka storyline, Kajal Aggarwal joins the cast as Mandodari, while Rakul Preet Singh plays the fiery Shurpanakha, and Vivek Oberoi is set to appear as her husband, Vidyutjiva.

Rama’s brothers will be brought to life by Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Adinath Kothare as Bharat. In a special appearance, Amitabh Bachchan will lend his legendary presence to the character of Jatayu, while Kunal Kapoor has been cast as Indradeva.

The production is being spearheaded by Yash and Namit Malhotra, with an estimated budget of USD 100 million (approx. Rs 835 crore), making Ramayana: Part One the most expensive Indian film ever made. The producers are reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. for global distribution, signaling a major push to bring the Indian epic to worldwide audiences.

In the music department, the film will be backed by the powerhouse collaboration between Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman and Hollywood legend Hans Zimmer.
