Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 Box Office Collection Day 18: Pushpa 2 has continued its phenomenal success at the box office, cementing its place as one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Despite facing offscreen challenges involving lead actor Allu Arjun and a tragic incident at a Hyderabad theatre, the film has captivated audiences worldwide, breaking numerous records along the way.
As per trade website Sacnilk, Pushpa 2 has made an unprecedented Rs 72.3 crore in its third weekend, a figure that rivals the opening weekend collections of many films released this year. The film’s weekend performance was strong, with Rs 33.25 crore earned on Sunday, Rs 24.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs 14.3 crore on Friday. These impressive numbers have helped the domestic collection soar to Rs 1062.9 crore, surpassing the seven-year record previously held by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which grossed Rs 1030.42 crore in 2017.
Globally, Pushpa 2 crossed the Rs 1500 crore mark on Thursday and is expected to have surpassed Rs 1600 crore by the end of the weekend. With Dangal and Baahubali 2 still ahead of it in the global market, the question remains whether Pushpa 2 can break those records as well.
What stands out about the film’s success is the striking disparity in collections between its original Telugu version and the dubbed Hindi version. The Hindi version has been a major contributor to the film’s box-office haul, earning Rs 58.05 crore out of the total Rs 72.3 crore over the weekend, despite both versions having a similar occupancy rate. The Hindi version continues to run in more screens, showcasing its dominance in the northern markets.
This success, however, has not been without its challenges. Offscreen issues have been troubling for Allu Arjun, including a heated exchange with the Telangana government and police. On the eve of the film’s release, a tragic incident occurred during a benefit show in a Hyderabad theatre, where a woman died, and her son was critically injured due to a stampede. The incident has sparked protests, with students vandalizing Allu Arjun’s home and demanding justice.
Despite the controversy, the Pushpa 2 team has maintained a low profile in recent days, refraining from celebrating the film’s box-office success amid the protests. Mythri Movie Makers has not released any official posters about the film’s collections since December 19, and the last update highlighted its dominance in the Hindi market.
