Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 1: The newest rom-com in Bollywood, Param Sundari, released on August 29. While a strong Friday release was expected for the star-studded flick, the Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor starrer received a lukewarm response from the audience. Param Sundari grossed Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day, as per Sacnilk reports.
Despite online chatter comparing Param Sundari to films like Chennai Express and 2 States, reviews do not paint a different picture. The film struggled with low opening day collections, especially in contrast to Saiyaara, which recently became a blockbuster by crossing the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide.
Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 1: Underwhelming occupancy
The Tushar Jalota directorial had an overall occupancy rate that barely crossed 12% on Friday. Drawing the maximum audience from Bengaluru and Chennai, Param Sundari performed with single-digit occupancy in Bhopal, Ahmedabad, and Surat. While the metros were kind to the Sidharth Malhotra-Janhvi Kapoor rom-com, both Mumbai and Delhi NCR did not manage to touch 15% occupancy in theatres.
On its opening day, Param Sundari had nearly 5000 screens showing the film across India. Also starring Sanjay Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Renji Panicker, Inayat Verma, and Siddhartha Shankar in key supporting roles, movie reviews suggest that Param Sundari’s cast made significant contributions to the film’s comedic element.
Param Sundari: All about the film
Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Maddock Films, Param Sundari explores cultural misadventures of the protagonist. Sidharth Malhotra, Param, is a boy from Delhi, while Janhvi Kapoor portrays Sundari from Kerala.
Receiving high praise for its musical score, Param Sundari’s Pardesiya gained high acceptance before release. However, the movie critics did not seem impressed with Kapoor’s portrayal of a South Indian girl. Malayalam radio personality Pavithra Menon and content creator Steffi slammed the casting of Janhvi in the film.
Lokah Chapter 1, the Malayali film, has also given steep competition to the South Indian audiences who wish to watch Param Sundari. The portrayal of the culture in the Bollywood film has been slammed by several users on social media.
However, several reviews on social media have not been scanty in praising Param Sundari. “You know those films that just work because the leads can’t take their eyes off each other? Param Sundari falls exactly into that space. The biggest strength of this film is Music,” wrote a user on X (formerly Twitter).
On the flip side, a user wrote, “A cross culture love story has potential but this film ain’t it. Leave the cultural inaccuracies aside, it’s not even authentic to its story, characters & motivations. Feels like a mismatch of 10 other films. Solely relies on the music to do the lifting.”
