Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 7: Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, has completed its first week at the box office, crossing the Rs 40 crore mark in India, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. On day seven, the film earned Rs 2.75 crore, and makers will be hoping for better numbers over the upcoming weekend.
The film currently has nearly 4,000 shows across India, with Delhi NCR leading at 1,123 screenings. Despite this wide release, Param Sundari appears to be struggling in theatres, especially when compared to recent hits. Saiyaara, featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, raked in Rs 170 crore in its first week, while War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr., nearly crossed Rs 200 crore in the same period. Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 managed around Rs 90 crore.
Param Sundari low occupancy rates raise concerns
Occupancy rates for Param Sundari have been low throughout the week. The average occupancy stood at 9.12 per cent, with morning and afternoon shows at 7.51 per cent and 9.71 per cent, respectively. Evening and night shows did little to improve the picture, registering 8.71 per cent and 10.48 per cent. This trend is concerning for Maddock Films, the production house behind the movie, which also delivered this year’s blockbuster Chhaava that grossed Rs 601 crore.
Param Sundari: Cast performance and past records
For the lead actors, this week has been crucial. Janhvi Kapoor’s last film, Devara: Part 1, earned Rs 292 crore, although her screen time was limited. Sidharth Malhotra, on the other hand, has been looking for a major box office success since Kapoor & Sons (2016). His recent releases, including Yodha, Thank God, and Marjaavaan, struggled to make a significant impact.
Directed by Tushar Jalota, the cast also includes Majot Singh, Sanjay Kapoor, Renji Panicker, and Abhishek Banerjee. The music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar, who previously collaborated with Sidharth on A Gentleman. While it may not reach the heights of Chhaava, Param Sundari is set to compete with other romantic films from Maddock’s library, such as Love Aaj Kal (Rs 66.25 crore), Cocktail (Rs 71.24 crore), Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (Rs 88.35 crore), and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 85.16 crore).
Param Sundari story
The film follows Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a carefree Delhi boy from a wealthy family who invests in trendy startups. His life takes a turn when he joins an AI matchmaking app called Soulmates. There, he is paired with Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a grounded South Indian girl managing her family’s homestay in Kerala.
The romcom revolves around the clash between Param’s modern, city-bred lifestyle and Sundari’s traditional values. Their cultural differences lead to funny moments and emotional conflicts, gradually bringing them closer. At its heart, the film poses an intriguing question: can technology really decide matters of the heart?
