Ahead of PadMan release on February 9, the ‘PadMan challenge’ has become a rage on social media. Once a social taboo, with the unconventional promotional strategy more people are connecting with the issue and this is helping to create hype around the movie. The inspiration behind the film Arunachalam Muruganantham also happens to have started the PadMan Challenge which has ensured involvement of celebrities as well as the common man. Talking about the motive behind him starting the challenge Muruganantham said that he wanted people to be aware of menstrual hygiene. ”So far only women speak them out, I want to see even the men speaking about menstruation. Every father should know about menstruation, every brother should know about menstruation, every uncle should know about menstruation. The message is not only for the women but men too and we wanted to emphasize this message,” Muruganantham said. Muruganantham was in Delhi promoting PadMan with Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Radhika Apte and director R Balki.

When Muruganantham was bringing in a revolution in rural India, he never in his dreams thought that a film on his efforts will ever be made, he said. “I never thought a film will be made on my life and my work. When I used to say the word ‘menstruation’, people used to beat me up. Who would have thought that there would be a time when a film will be made on my life?” PadMan hits the screen on February 9 and is based on a social taboo of menstrual hygiene in our country, especially rural India. The Akshay Kumar starrer is Twinkle’s maiden film to be produced under her production venture. Helmed by Paa fame director R Balki, the film is first of its kind to be made on the theme of sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene.
