In some good news for Mani Ratnam and Karthi fans, its has been revealed that Kaatru Veliyidai first look poster, cast, crew is finally, out. Interest in their next project was massive and expectedly speculation about the movie was rife. All of that can now be laid to rest.

The declaration happened without much fanfare on social media platforms in characteristic Mani Ratnam style, but the effect on the wider cinematic world was spectacular with fans and other avid movie watchers scrambling to check it out. The movie will be in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

Kaatru Veliyidai poster that shows an emotional scene between the lead pair is dark and sensitive. In the movie Karthi is a pilot who is besotted with a a girl whom he meets on a trip to India.

The Kaatru Veliyidai cast includes Aditi Rao Hydari, music has been scored by AR Rahman, Art Director is Sharmishta Royand, cinematography is by Ravi Varman and editing by Sreekar Prasad – RJ Balaji is featured too.

Surmising from the poster and figuring from Mani Ratnam’s style, it is evidently a romantic film with dark overtones, emotional churning therefore, is guaranteed.


Kaatru Veliyidai shooting will start from Friday itself and will last for about 40 days. The filming initially will happen in the picturesque Ooty city. It will then shift to Kashmir.

The filmmakers are targetting a November-December , 2016 release for Kaatru Veliyidai.

Kaatru Veliyidai will be a Mani Ratnam home production – Madras Talkies. Also, Tamil Nadu theatrical rights have been acquired by Sri Thenandal Films.

Radio Jockey and actor Balaji is already on record  expressing his happiness on Twitter at the turn of events: “And this did happen for real. Grew up watching his films n now to be part of a Maniratnam film. Feels like a dream”.

Balaji is likely to play play actor Karthi’s hero’s sidekick in the movie.
