KPop Demon Hunters 2 is set to return to your screens, but fans will have to wait to see the girl gang, Huntr/x, reunite. OTT platform Netflix and Sony have finalised a deal for another K-pop Demon Hunters musical sequel movie, but for a 2029 release.
Sony Pictures Animation’s KPop Demon Hunters, a fantasy adventure about a K-pop girl group who battle demons through the power of music, has become an unexpected global sensation. Originally developed for streaming as part of Sony’s licensing deal with Netflix, the film debuted directly on the platform and quickly became Netflix’s most-watched movie ever. Its original tracks, ‘Golden,’ ‘Your Idol,’ and ‘Soda Pop,’ have dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for weeks and are even being talked about as potential Grammy contenders.
The craze has been so intense that Netflix, which rarely releases its films in theatres, made an exception. The streamer hosted special sing-along screenings in August and again around Halloween, both met with huge fan turnout. The first theatrical event earned around $18 million in just two days, while the Halloween re-release brought in another $5–6 million, impressive numbers for a movie already available online.
KPop Demon Hunters 2: What to expect?
KPop Demon Hunters 2 will continue to tell the tale of the fierce Huntr/x who balance fame, friendship, and the daunting task of saving humanity from demonic forces.
Since the creative team remains tight-lipped about the plot, the film is expected to dive deeper into the personal struggles and emotional journeys of its characters. The KPop Demon Hunters musical sequel will explore their pasts and the mythologies that define them. Fans can also look forward to dazzling new musical sequences that fuse high-energy K-pop choreography with cinematic action, supported by a fresh soundtrack that promises to dominate playlists once again.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 will also feature cutting-edge animation and expanded world-building, creating a darker, more mature tone while retaining the colour, rhythm, and energy that made the original so loved.
