A thrilling plot, strong and authentic performances by the actors, stellar direction and cinematography have ensured this crime mystery’s instant and massive appeal to audiences. Positive reviews from critics and word-of-mouth have also contributed to the heavy turnout in theatres.
How has Kalamkaval performed in theatres?
On opening day, Kalamkaval raked in collections amounting to a decent Rs 5 crore as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s collections stayed steady through the weekend, with Saturday (Day 2) bringing in Rs 5.5 crores and Sunday (Day 3) 6 crores. Theatre occupancy of Kalamkaval
Even though Kalamkaval released exclusively in its native language, its appeal has extended beyond Kerala with shows running in major metros like Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and even NCR. The film’s core audience, however, remains Malayali movie-goers, which is evident from the high turnout in Kochi, Kollam and Alappuzha.
Overall Malayalam occupancy stood at 32.14% on Day 5 of Kalamkaval’s theatrical run, with evening and night shows drawing the largest crowds. Kochi shows had an overall occupancy of 61.25%, Kollam 52%, Alappuzha 46.25%, and Kottayam 39.75%, while metros like Bengaluru and Chennai saw more modest numbers at 17.75% and 16.50% respectively.
