Missed Dulquer Salmaan’s highly-acclaimed film Kaantha in cinemas? The Selvamani Swaraj that received rave reviews from critics but failed to set the box office ringing, is coming to OTT earlier than expected.
Netflix India South has announced the digital premiere of the film in less than a month before its theatrical release on November 14, 2025. While Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s film De De Pyaar De 2, released on the same day, performed significantly well, and is nearing Rs 100 crore mark now, Kaantha couldn’t go beyond Rs 20 crore as per Sacnilk.
When and where to watch Kaantha
Kaantha can be stremed on Netflix December 12, 2025 onwards, in Telugu and Tamil. The film was produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese under Spirit Media Pvt. Ltd. and Wayfarer Films Pvt. Ltd. Netflix India South also informed that the film will be released as Shaantha in Kannada on December 12 on the platform.
“Kaantha is arriving on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam and as Shaantha in Kannada on 12th Dec,” added Netflix India South.
There was a lot of buzz surrounding Kaantha, the cinematic thriller set in 1950s Mardras, courtesy its scale, genre and star value. Not only it starred Dulquer Salmaan, known for his acting prowess, it was also helmed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the master director behind Netflix docuseries The Hunt for Veerappan.

Performances are the highlight of the film. Many netizens who watched the film describes Salmaan’s performance National award winning worthy. The performances by Bhagyashri Bose, Samuthirakani, and Rana Daggubati also stood out.
Kaantha box office performance
Kaantha opened with Rs 4.35 crore on Friday, November 14, raising the hopes of it picking up in subsequent days. The film’s collections improved on Saturday, as it amassed Rs 5 cr, and went back to Rs 4.5 cr on Sunday. However, on its first Monday, the film registered a big crash as the collections dropped to Rs 1.8 crore. The trend was downwards for the film with collections ranging from 1.8 cr-1.5 cr in its first week and subsequently dipping to under 1 crore.
