Former Miss A member Min’s seven-year romance with a non-celebrity businessman eventually paved the way for a grand festivity this weekend as they tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony in Seoul, South Korea. The June 7 event, though a celebration of the couple’s love, turned into an unofficial ‘JYP reunion,’ with several artists once tied to the South Korean label in attendance.

Veteran K-pop fans were especially swept off their feet and caught in the feels on discovering that Min’s former bandmates also participated in the celebration. Ex-Miss A members Jia and Fei also took to her social media profiles to share the happy pictures of the day. Bae Suzy’s absence was more than palpable as the trio’s reunion snaps from the wedding day went viral online.

How Miss A bullying rumours emerged?

Over a decade ago, the K-pop artist-turned-actress debuted alongside Fei, Jia and Min as the youngest member of Miss A. With their company ultimately shining a brighter spotlight on the music act’s ‘maknae’ instead of equally highlighting each member’s strengths and consolidating the group as a whole in promotions, Suzy’s popularity inevitably weighed heavy on the Miss A name. Although Bae remained with the group until their disbandment seven years later in 2017, feud rumours started consuming the K-pop act’s identity somewhere in the middle.

Hot on the heels of the group’s success story with their “Only You” comeback in 2015, K-pop enthusiasts flooded the elder trio’s SNS accounts with concerns about Suzy’s well-being. With those comments, netizens sought to probe suspicions about Jia, Fei and Min not being as close with the youngest addition, possibly even hinting at the Start-Up actress being a victim of bullying due to her level of fame surpassing that of her bandmates’. The speculations about Bae Suzy being “an outcast” only deepened over the years.

Miss A Suzy feud reignited after Min’s wedding

They resurfaced yet again this weekend as Min’s wedding photos took over K-pop fans’ feeds on social media. In addition to other ex-Miss A members being there for the celebration, fellow JYP artists (some former, some current), including 2PM’s Jang Wooyoung, Ok Taecyeon and f(x)’s Amber were also spotted at the gathering.

And yet, Suzy’s name soared to the top of trending topics despite her absence at Min’s wedding. The hot debate brought the old fandom back alive, as many speculated if the K-drama diva, fondly known as the ‘Nation’s First Love,’ had even received an invitation for the same. “NOT MIN INVITING JYP ARTISTS and Fei and Jia but not SUZY OH THEY REALLY HATE HER,” someone fuelled the years-old dormant bullying rumours.

Another user wrote on X: “Miss A reunion at Min’s wedding, I know Suzy did not even receive an invitation.” Beyond the old claims of the group’s alleged mistreatment of the singer-actress, some even weighed in on the possibility of the Doona star being the “arrogant” one.

However, her supporters were first in line to defend her. “They really want susy to be the bad one, accusing her attitude but can’t provide any proof. If she did that knetz will be the first one to curse her and suzy will not be at the top of the pyramid until now if she’s the problem,” a fan commented.

On the other side of the table, some said that it was okay for people to drift apart. A consequential chunk of the fandom even urged others to bury such controversial discussions in an attempt to prevent all of it from overshadowing Min’s big day. “It’s not rocket science that they aren’t close so let it rest,” read one comments on this side of the conversation. A second user chimed in, saying, “They’re probably not friends anymore and that’s okay. People drift apart, that’s life. Besides, she’s busy filming her drama… It’s Min’s day yet u make it about Suzy?”

Suzy on her life after K-pop

Last year, the Wonderland actress revealed that while she finds her old memories tied to the K-pop world “endearing,” they also often caught her “off guard.” As has been established, Suzy’s schedules at the time remained more hectic than the other members’. Despite only positively reflecting on her days as an ex-Miss A member, she opened up about having “no spare time or headspace” in an interview with SBS Star.

Highlighting that she entered the public eye during her formative years, she added, “There weren’t enough opportunities to think about my life or look at it from a distance. It’s not that things were harder back then; I didn’t know what to do because I was so young.”

Compared to those days, Suzy said that since he had more headspace in the present, she had become “incomparably more content” with her life than she was then. At the same time, she asserted that her enduring resilience was only a by-product of the hard times, saying, “I don’t think I would have reached this emotional state if I hadn’t gone through that time.”

A year prior, the former Miss A singer bared her heart, disclosing that she had to hide her feelings during her K-pop days of fame. Shortly after the release of her drama Doona!, she said the titular character “constantly reminded [her] of the time when I was a member of Miss A.”

“Although my experience was different from Doona’s, I was still able to understand her well,” she explained. “In my early-20s, I didn’t have the opportunity to feel pain and express my true emotions like Doo-na. I actually kept my feelings hidden.”

Miss A member on Suzy

2024 also saw Fei speaking out about the old days in an interview with Sina Weibo. When asked about the progression of Suzy’s career, she showered her with praises, extolling her hardworking work ethic. Koreaboo quoted her statements’ english translation highlighting that despite the young member’s professionalism, her anxiousness was evident at the beginning of their careers since the other three members had undergone a longer period of training.

Fei even went as far as admitting that the group was fully aware of many people finding Miss A all thanks to Suzy. Addressing the varying perception of the bandmates in the minds of fans, she said, “Everyone’s popularity is different. You cannot control how popular you are, right. It’s enough that we just made sure we did our job well, and left the rest to the audiences. So it’s not about whether the company arranged opportunities for you, it’s not like that.”

Unloading her take on the “unequal development opportunities” offered by the company, she eventually added, “Of course, there are a lot of people who say they only know Miss A because of Suzy. I don’t think this matters. Ultimately, your answer is that you know of Miss A, right? It’s good enough that you know of Miss A.”

Bae Suzy is poised to reunite with her Uncontrollably Fond co-star Kim Woo Bin in the upcoming Netflix series Genie, Make a Wish, later this year. She is also scheduled to once again join forces with Kim Seon Ho for the 2026 Disney+ drama Delusion. Renowned K-drama names Huh Joon Ho, Choi Hyun Wook and Kim Young Kwang are expected to share the screen with the Start-Up alums. The beloved singer-actress was last seen in the movie Wonderland opposite Park Bo Gum, and Netflix’s Doona, co-starring Yang Se Jong.
