“Gege is still on top,” exclaimed many exhilarated fans of the much-loved anime/manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. A glimmering ray of hope shot into the lives of those who’d long been suffering the pains of the JJK void after the best-selling Japanese story concluded on the manga side of things in September 2024.
As the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump ran without new JJK additions after a strong six-and-a-half-year run, fans couldn’t help but wonder their favourite mangaka Gege Akutami had left them hanging for nothing. However, Thursday (IST) ushered in a new era of Jujutsu Kaisen altogether.
Just days ago, fans were blessed with a teaser for the anime adaptation’s Season 3. The next arc ‘The Culling Game’ is all set to debut on Crunchyroll in January 2026. And now, the JJK mastermind has seemingly confirmed that his long-teased forthcoming new manga project will be a Jujutsu Kaisen spinoff after all!
Jujutsu Kaisen spinoff: Mojuro confirmed?
Reliable scoopers for the anime-manga world on X, including ‘@Go_Jover,’ spilled online that Gege’s next project titled ‘Mojuro’ (or as some are calling it ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 3 Modulo’) has been illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki (of ‘Cypher Academy’ fame). The short-term serialisation will reportedly be published over a period of six months. If the ambitious project passes with flying colours, the story is expected to continue for approximately three volumes.

Online reports suggest that ‘Mojuro’ will be launching this week on September 8 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41. The forthcoming spinoff will also serve as a sequel to the original JJK series as its action pick up right from where the original story left off.
The new short-term manga is said to be introducing Yuta’s grandchildren – Yuuka Okkotsu and Tsurugi Okkotsu – as its primary protagonists. The fan-favourite ‘YutaMaki’ pairing from the original series, aka Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin, will soon officially take off not only as romantic partners, but also as a married couple. Thanks to the ‘Mojuro’ revelation, fans’ ‘YutaMaki’ agenda is now “canon.”
Gege Akutami’s message to fans
According to the online scoop, the beloved manga creator also send out a message to the fans, addressing his plans for the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise’s future. Therein, he divulged that while he was serialising the original storyline, he received countless offers for spinoff projects written by others. However, acknowledging that things could easily spin out of control on the manga front, he turned down any such requests at the time so that he could take charge of the endeavour himself.
“But when this particular offer came, and I thought about how it might expand the main story, delve deeper into its setting, or even shift eras entirely,” reads the translated message. “I realised that if it were set in a parallel line, it could open the door to many different projects.”
GEGE: Hello, it’s Akutami. It’s been a while. While serializing Jujutsu Kaisen (jujutsu from here), I received several offers for spinoffs written by others. However, because manga is a medium where things can easily get out of my control, I was afraid of the title spreading in… pic.twitter.com/wIuavG8Y4s

The same thought process ultimately led to the birth of the ‘Mojuro’ title, which he said wasn’t even backed by a concrete foundation in its initial stages of ideation. He then went on to confirm that ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 3 – Modulo’ was going to be a short-term serialisation that would consumed Weekly Shonen Jump’s pages for about half a year if it doesn’t end up being scrapped mid-way.
Moreover, the legendary mangaka even praised his partner for this project, Yuji Iwasaki. “I’d be very happy if you enjoy Mojuro as a new entry point into the world of Jujutsu,” he concluded.
