Jane Austen’s iconic novel Pride and Prejudice is set to have another on-screen adaptation. The upcoming six-part miniseries will release on Netflix, which has already seen successful period-drama series like Bridgerton, another popular book-to-screen adaptation. The miniseries will be directed by Euros Lyn, who previously directed Heartstopper and Sherlock. So far, no official announcements about the release date or the trailer have been made.

Pride and Prejudice new cast

While more information about the casting is still being awaited, the leading roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy are being played by Emma Corin and Jack Lowden respectively. Emma portrayed Princess Diana in the fourth season of Netflix’s historical drama, The Crown and has also acted in Deadpool & Wolverine and Nosferatu, while Jack has featured in Slow Horses and Benediction. Additionally, veteran actress Olivia Coleman will also join the cast as Elizabeth’s mother, Mrs. Bennet.

Dolly Alderton chosen is the screenwriter

Dolly Alderton, screenwriter, novelist and bestselling author of her memoir Everything I know About Love, is developing the script. The adaptation will remain faithful to Jane Austen’s original text even while presenting the story to an entirely new generation of viewers.

“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton told Netflix. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm. In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Emma Corrin, who is also the executive producer, shared how excited she was to play the role of Elizabeth Bennet. “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
