Jagga Jasoos’ trailer was released yesterday and it looks like Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are set to take audiences for a thrill ride next summer. After releasing its first poster, the Jagga Jasoos team unveiled the three-minute video and, we must say, for a family film, it seems to have a lot of action. Of course, these action sequences are more fairytale-like, such as the scene where Kat and Ranbir ride ostriches. The trailer, while an amazing montage of animals and slapstick humour, gives very little insight into what the film’s storyline is.

And speaking of slapstick humour, is it just us or is Jagga Jasoos giving some Barfi vibes? First, we have next to no dialogue in the trailer. It’s only in the clip’s final seconds that we know for sure that Ranbir’s character can speak. Then we have our leads falling down, getting up and moving in a cartoonish way that was so characteristic of Barfi. Perhaps that was to be expected since Jagga Jasoos reunites the Bombay Velvet actor with director Anurag Basu.

Jagga Jasoos, which follows the story of a boy determined to find his father, might just provide Ranbir and Katrina with the hit they need. Ranbir’s star has been shaky of late and while Ae Dil Hai Mushkil gave him some success at the box office, none of his films have eclipsed Barfi from four years ago. Katrina too needs a hit to help the audience forget the debacle that was Baar Baar Dekho and let’s not even talk about Fitoor. Jagga Jasoos is set to release on April 7 and while we’re glad to see Katrina and Ranbir romance each other on the big screen, it will be interesting to see how the exes behave during the promotion of the film next year.
