Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency experienced a decline in its daily box office earnings in India on its first Monday, following a relatively strong performance over the opening weekend. On Day 5 (Tuesday), the box office collection touched  Rs 0.45 crore as per the latest data. In total, the film’s India net collection for the first five days stands at  Rs 11.85 crore till now.

According to Industry tracker Sacnilk, on Day 1 (Friday), Emergency earned Rs 2.5 Cr, followed by a 44 per cent increase on Day 2 (Saturday), reaching  Rs 3.6 crore. On Day 3 (Sunday), the collection saw another rise of 18.06 per cent, totaling  Rs 4.25 crore. However, Day 4 (Monday) experienced a significant drop of 75.29 per cent, with earnings falling to  Rs 1.05 crore.

Emergency as the title leads is a biographical political drama. The film goes deep into the major events spanning between 1975 to 1977, in the post Independence period. The movie’s major plot revolves around the declaration of Nationwide Emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. However, the movie is not a biopic of Indira Gandhi, it revolves around the major political decisions around her life as the prime minister.

Poor performance than Alia-starrer Jigra

Interestingly, Emergency has consistently seen lower daily collections compared to the Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra, a film Kangana had subtly criticized when it underperformed upon its release in October 2024. During Jigra’s box office struggles, Kangana had posted on her Instagram stories: “When you sabotage woman-centric films and ensure they fail, they fail, even when you create them. Read that again.” Jigra received a total of Rs 31.95 crore as its box office collection till the end of its third week till November 1, 2024.

Jigra opened with Rs 4.55 crore on its first Friday, while Emergency had a lower debut of Rs 2.5 crore. Over their respective opening weekends and the following Monday, Jigra earned Rs 6.55 crore, Rs 5.5 crore, and Rs 1.65 crore, while Emergency made Rs 3.6 crore, Rs 4.25 crore, and Rs 1.04 crore on the same days.
