Ranveer Singh has closed the year on a massive high with Dhurandhar, which has taken a thunderous start at the worldwide box office. The action-packed spy thriller has delivered the strongest opening day of Ranveer’s career, both in India and overseas, surprising trade experts and setting the tone for what looks like a blockbuster weekend ahead.

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 1

Dhurandhar collected a huge Rs 27 crore net in India on its opening day, with a gross total of Rs 32.40 crore. Most industry predictions estimated an opening in the Rs 18–20 crore range, but strong word-of-mouth pushed the film beyond every expectation.

Overseas too, the film had a solid start, earning $850K (around Rs 7 crore) on day one. With this, Dhurandhar has recorded a worldwide opening of around Rs 40 crore, giving the film one of the best global starts for a Bollywood film in 2024.

Trade analysts now expect the film to cross the Rs 100 crore worldwide mark by Sunday.

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection in India

In the domestic market, Dhurandhar has surged past several major releases, proving to be one of the strongest openings of the year. The film has already beaten the opening day numbers of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, which collected Rs 21.9 crore in India. So far, the only title ahead of it in 2025 remains Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava.

For Ranveer Singh, the success is even more special, as Dhurandhar has now become the biggest opener of his career. It has overtaken the first-day collections of his previous blockbusters, including Padmaavat (Rs 24 crore) and Simmba (Rs 20.72 crore). Both films were strong performers at the time, but Dhurandhar has surpassed them with ease, marking a major comeback moment for the actor and setting the tone for a potentially massive weekend.

Dhurandhar Day 1 occupancy report

The film opened on Friday, December 5, with an overall occupancy of 33.81 per cent across India. More than 4,000 shows were allotted on day one, and the film picked up significantly in the evening and night shows, crossing 55 per cent occupancy in several regions.

Delhi NCR led the pack with 40 per cent occupancy across 1,371 shows, followed by Mumbai with around 35 per cent across 1,024 screenings. The actual turnout was much higher than pre-sales figures, which indicates strong walk-in audiences driven by word-of-mouth.

Star Cast and Audience Response

The film has a powerful cast with Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal in lead roles. There has also been a lot of discussion around Sara Arjun, who plays the female lead. While some viewers have praised her performance, others have questioned her screen time. However, overall reception has been very positive, with social media filled with praise for Ranveer’s intense role and Aditya Dhar’s gripping direction.

Dhurandhar overtakes Saiyaara and Padmaavat worldwide

Globally, Dhurandhar has emerged as Ranveer Singh’s biggest worldwide opener to date, surpassing the opening day collections of Saiyaara (Rs 29.40 crore worldwide) and Padmaavat (Rs 37 crore worldwide). Although it still trails behind Chhaava, which registered a massive Rs 47.40 crore worldwide on day one, Dhurandhar is holding strong. With glowing audience reactions and high weekend demand, the film is well-positioned to keep its momentum going through its opening weekend and beyond.
