Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie, released on 14 August, is still doing well at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 12 crore net in India on Day 5, down from Sunday’s Rs 35.25 crore. Its total India net collection now stands at Rs 206.50 crore.

However, Coolie is getting close to Rs 400 crore in worldwide box office collections. The Coolie team confirmed that it has now grossed Rs 404 crore worldwide in just four days, making it one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted, “#Coolie doing coolie things. Flying high at the box office with 404 cr+ gross in 4 days.”

Meanwhile, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has also crossed Rs 200 crore worldwide, but its momentum is slowing down. The film earned Rs 174.75 crore net in India over its opening weekend, but saw a 42 per cent drop on Saturday and no growth on Sunday.
On Monday, War 2 collected just Rs 8.50 crore net, a 76 per cent drop from Sunday’s earnings. After five days, it has earned Rs 183.25 crore in India and will need a strong weekend to reach Rs 200 crore in its first week.

When it comes to worldwide box office collection, War 2 has done well but hasn’t matched expectations. The film crossed Rs 200 crore gross internationally, but with a reported cost of Rs 400 crore, it still has a way to go before breaking even.

While both films are doing well, Coolie is clearly holding stronger momentum in India and worldwide. War 2 had a promising start but the sharp drop in collections suggests it might be tough for it to beat Thalaivar’s Coolie.
