Coolie vs War 2 Box Office Collection Day 12: This Independence Day weekend saw one of the biggest box office clashes in recent years as Rajinikanth’s Coolie went head-to-head with Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Both films released on August 14 and carried massive expectations, with fans lining up outside theatres in large numbers. While both action-packed entertainers have had strong openings, Rajinikanth’s Coolie has clearly taken the lead after 12 days, leaving War 2 struggling to keep pace.
Coolie Box Office Collection Day 12
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie opened to thunderous response, thanks to Rajinikanth’s unmatched star power. The film made a staggering Rs 65 crore on day one, followed by Rs 54.75 crore on its first Friday. The momentum carried through the weekend with Rs 39.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 35.25 crore on Sunday. However, the weekday collections saw a sharp dip, with the first Monday bringing in only Rs 12 crore, a nearly 66 per cent drop. Collections slowed down further through the week, but even with this dip, the film closed its first week at Rs 229.65 crore net in India.
In the second week, Coolie managed to find some stability. On its second Friday, the film collected Rs 5.85 crore, before bouncing back with Rs 10.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 11.35 crore on Sunday. The second Monday, however, witnessed another dip as it earned just Rs 3 crore, the lowest daily collection so far in its run. With this, Coolie’s domestic total now stands at Rs 260.35 crore net in 12 days. Globally, the Rajinikanth-starrer has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark, making it the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025.
War 2 Box Office Collection Day 12
Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, meanwhile, has been struggling to keep up. After 12 days, the film has earned Rs 224.25 crore net in India, still short of the Rs 250 crore mark. The movie had a strong opening weekend, collecting Rs 44.5 crore in Hindi on Independence Day, and registering Rs 26 crore on Saturday. In its first week, War 2 earned Rs 150.4 crore in Hindi and Rs 52.2 crore from its Telugu version. The Telugu numbers, however, slowed down significantly as the week progressed.
The second weekend provided some relief with Rs 6.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.5 crore on Sunday, but the second Monday saw a steep decline with only Rs 2.25 crore earned. Despite the star power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the film has not managed to create lasting buzz at the box office.
Made on a massive budget of Rs 400 crore, War 2 marks Jr NTR’s Hindi film debut and his first collaboration with Hrithik Roshan. While it did manage to generate strong excitement initially, especially in Telugu markets, the numbers have been on a steady decline. The film still holds the distinction of being the second-highest Hindi opening of 2025, after Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava.
Coolie vs War 2 Box Office Collection
The clash between Coolie and War 2 was one of the most anticipated battles of 2025. Both films boasted powerful casts, stylish action, and massive production scales. However, audience response has clearly tilted in favor of Coolie. Rajinikanth’s mass appeal, combined with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s direction, helped the film dominate the box office, while War 2 has been struggling to sustain its momentum.
Industry tracker Sacnilk predicts that releasing two such big-budget films on the same weekend has impacted their overall box office potential. Still, the numbers make it clear: Coolie has emerged as the bigger winner, leaving War 2 trailing behind. As both films head into their third week, the race is not over yet, but Rajinikanth’s Coolie has already established itself as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
