D-Day is finally here! BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon) and V (Kim Taehyung), affectionately known as the “4 O’Clock” sub-unit, have been discharged from their mandatory military obligations in South Korea.

Days ahead of RM and V’s June 10 discharge event, BTS’ agency Big Hit Music released an official notice, urging fans not to overcrowd the venue and patiently await their favourite singers’ return to their musical normalcy. In light of the announcement, a small group of local BTS ARMYs came out to celebrate Namjoon and Taehyung’s departure from the military at the Sports Park in Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.

BTS discharge event was livestreamed

The event’s live coverage was streamed by various South Korean networks on YouTube. The site saw incoming buses displaying warm messages that welcomed the K-pop idols back. Buses with huge images of the duo were seen all over the place. Eventually, the fans settled into their places, awaiting the BTS duo’s arrival.

Greeting the BTS ARMYs, both members retained their official stances. Pictures of them saluting went viral. Eventually taking mics into their hands, the singers opened up about their experience and what’s to come next. RM expressed his concerns about the other younger members who had yet to be released from their duties. “I’m worried about the juniors who remain,” he said with V by his side.

BTS’ RM and V promise to return to the stage

After he thanked the fans for waiting for him all this while, he declared, “I will come back as BTS RM.” Subsequently, his bandmate, V, went on to say that the military service period granted him time to reconsider his body and mind. He promised to “return with a cool appearance soon.”

Additionally, the members expressed their gratitude to the officers and soldiers for taking good care of them during their military stint. Getting into leader mode, RM confessed that in his post-military era, which will inevitable also mark the commencement of a new BTS era, he wanted to perform the most.

BTS RM’s saxophone makes a playfully stellar comeback

“No more returning to the military unit, we will return to the stage,” RM and V said after their discharge. Following a previous trend of playing the saxophone as the members came out to greet their eldest member, Jin, on his discharge date, the BTS leader again entertained the fans by playing the music instrument on location. Having previously documented his status as a keen pop culture enthusiast on social media, Namjoon chose to play the anime Detective Conan theme song on his saxophone. He and Taehyung ultimately walked out with lovely flower bouquets in their hands.

Both RM and V began their respective military obligations on December 11, 2023. While Namjoon joined the 15th Infantry Division of the ROK Army, Taehyung was enlisted as a member of the Special Duty Team (SDT) of the ROK Military Police.

Their fellow members Jimin and Jungkook will be discharged tomorrow. Fans can again tune in for the early morning livestream to watch their return and reunion with local fans. Suga, the last member to come back, is set to be released on June 21.
