One of the most famous divorces in Hollywood, between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has had its newest revelation. As per the latest emails submitted last week by Pitt’s legal team, the actor sued ex-wife Jolie for $35 million in damages for the 2021 sale of their co-owned winery.
One of the many sensitive topics in the divorce settlement, Jolie called it a stressful situation. “I need to remove all the stress,” the Maleficent actor had mentioned in her email, according to legal documents quoted by USA Today. In the partially redacted email, she added, “I honestly feel I am getting sick from worry. So I would like us to discuss better support. And not continuing relationships that you see cause me stress.”
Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt 2023 emails
This came after Brad Pitt’s alleged $35 million lawsuit, filed in November 2023, over the 2021 sale of their Château Miraval winery. At the time, Pitt’s lawyers had written, “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr Pitt’s own creation; he is suing Ms Jolie for $35 million in damages.”
They also claimed that within six months of Jolie selling her stake in Miraval, her lawyer approached Pitt with a proposal for an even broader mutual non-disparagement agreement as part of their ongoing divorce negotiations.
The $35 million lawsuit
The lawsuit was first filed in 2022. It claimed that his ex-wife had sold her share of the Miraval winery to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group. This action allegedly denied the couple’s prior agreement that neither would do so without the other person’s approval. Violating this, Jolie denied the agreement and filed a countersuit. The actor claimed that the lawsuit was an effort to wage a ‘vindictive war against’ her.
They’ve also alleged that Pitt declined to buy her share of the business because she refused to sign a nondisclosure agreement that, according to her, was meant to silence her about the alleged abuse and its cover-up. The claims refer to a 2016 private jet incident in which the actor was accused of verbal and physical misconduct toward his family. Authorities did not file any charges, and Jolie chose not to pursue legal action at the time.
In recent developments, Jolie has invoked attorney-client privilege to withhold certain documents, a move Pitt’s legal team argues is an improper attempt to conceal information tied to her sale of Miraval shares. On October 27, Pitt’s lawyers renewed their demand for access to 22 of those contested files.
With the next public hearing scheduled for December 17, this 286-page filing is part of Pitt’s efforts to obtain clarity on the 2021 sale of the French winery, as per USA Today.
