Border, the iconic 90s war film, is back with a sequel and fans just cannot keep calm. After releasing posters of key characters, the makers unveiled the Border 2 teaser on Vijay Diwas, December 16. While Sunny Deol makes a much-awaited return to the franchise, the film is directed by Anurag Singh and brings in new faces such as Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.

‘It was not just a war film but an emotional experience’

When J.P. Dutta’s Border released in 1997, it left a lasting mark on Indian cinema. Based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the film told the story of Indian soldiers who stood their ground against all odds. It was not just a war film but an emotional experience that connected deeply with audiences. Powerful performances, strong dialogues and patriotic songs made Border a landmark film that is still remembered today.

The original film had a strong cast, including Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu and Rakhi. One of its most iconic moments was the song Sandese Aate Hain, which continues to evoke emotion and patriotism even decades later. With its focus on bravery, sacrifice and brotherhood, Border set a new standard for war films in Bollywood.

Nearly three decades later, Border 2 is set to bring back that same spirit, while introducing a new generation of actors. The sequel aims to balance nostalgia with fresh energy, keeping the core theme of patriotism intact.

Sunny Deol returns as the face of patriotism

Sunny Deol is once again leading the cast in Border 2. His return is one of the biggest highlights of the film. According to a Network 18 report, Sunny Deol is the highest-paid actor in the film, charging a fee of around Rs 50 crore. His presence adds continuity to the franchise and brings back memories of the original film for longtime fans.

Varun Dhawan adds youthful energy

Joining Sunny Deol is Varun Dhawan who is reportedly charging between Rs 8 to Rs 10 crore for his role. His casting is seen as a move to bridge the gap between generations.

Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in key roles

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh is also part of Border 2 and brings his strong fan following to the film. He is said to be charging between Rs 4 to Rs 5 crore. Ahan Shetty, son of Suniel Shetty, is also part of the cast. While details about his fee have not been disclosed, his inclusion adds to the younger lineup of the film.

The film also stars Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and Medha Rana in important roles. Though details about their fees are not available, their characters are expected to add emotional weight to the story and balance the war-driven narrative.

With a mix of familiar faces and new talent, Border 2 aims to honour the legacy of the original film while telling a story that connects with today’s audience.
