Superstar Akshay Kumar and Shruti Haasan starrer Gabbar Is Back box office collections, which collected in Rs 13.05 crore on Day 1, a lesser Rs 11.36 crore on Day 2, effected a U-turn and raked in Rs 15 crore on Day 3 (opening weekend), crawled to Rs 6.75 crore on Day 4, Rs 5 crore on Day 5, a paltry Rs 4.50 crore on Day 6, Rs 4.2 crore on Day 7, Rs 2.8 cr on Day 8, and beat back new releases Piku and Kuch Kuch Locha Hai to earn another Rs 4.20 crore on Day 9 (Saturday), all of it adding up to Rs 66.86 crore in domestic market and a grand total of Rs 75.27 crore (both domestic and foreign) – surprisingly, the Rs 100 crore mark is near now.

Week 1 has come to an end and Friday releases are in theatres. At first look, Gabbar Is Back did not seem to have the gumption to hold out against Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone starrer Piku and Sunny Leone starrer Kuch Kuch Locha Hai. But Saturday’s turnaround means Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar Is Back movie may not dead in the waters, yet.

Gabbar Is Back was much talked about ahead of its release mostly because of the historical context of the name and a lot was said about whether anyone can do justice to the role. However, Akshay Kumar cannily projected the movie as one whose message is of purely fighting corruption to align it with the current national scene. That particular niche was considered enough to set the film apart all by itself.

Gabbar Is Back news was not always negative though. On Friday Gabbar Is Back box office collections had taken off on a good note with approximately 75 pct opening occupancy rate in theatres giving hope to the industry it was going to see a turnaround film finally in Bollywood in 2015 – the rest of the year till then has been a washout. The good news did not last beyond Sunday.

As far as Gabbar Is Back movie reviews are concerned, some were positive while most others negative. However, the fact that the audience had been eagerly waiting for Akshay Kumar’s new film, expectations were that it would do well no matter what reviewers were saying.
