Shanaya Kapoor’s much-awaited debut, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, finally hit the screens on July 11, and well, the audience doesn’t seem to be impressed. Directed by Santosh Singh, the film also failed to make a significant impact on its opening day. According to data from Sacnilk.com, the romantic drama managed to collect only Rs 35 lakh on its first day in theatres across India. With an overall Hindi occupancy rate of just 9.92% on Friday, the film’s initial performance has been underwhelming.
Co-starring Vikrant Massey, the film’s reception is unimpressive, particularly when compared to Massey’s previous film, The Sabarmati Report (2024), which opened with a much stronger Rs 1.25 crore collection.
Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor, was initially set to debut with Bedhadak, a project that was eventually shelved. Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan thus marks her official entry into the Hindi film industry.
The film, produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla, explores love, emotional vulnerability, and the evolving relationship between its central characters. It is penned by writer-lyricist Niranjan Iyengar in collaboration with Mansi Bagla. The music has been composed by Vishal Mishra.
Presented by Zee Studios in association with Mini Films, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is still in its opening weekend, and all eyes are now on whether word of mouth can help the film gain momentum in the days to come.
