The Staff Selection Commision (SSC) has announced to recruit candidates for Group C positions including Data Entry Operators (DEO), Junior Secretariat Assistants (JSA), and Lower Divisional Clerks (LDC) through a notification released on its official website, ssc.gov.in. The appointment on these posts will be made through Staff Selection Commission’s Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (SSC-CHSL). 

As per the notification, there are 5000 vacancies for several posts across different ministries, departments, offices, government and constitutional bodies. Those who have completed their class 12 are eligible for SSC-CHSL examination. 

Additionally, the application fee for SSC-CHSL 2024 is Rs. 100. Noteldy, the application fee is exempted for women, SC, ST and ex-servicemen candidates. Typically, SSC-CHSL has four papers which include English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. 

The exam is conducted in 2 tiers along with an additional typing test. According to the notification, the duration of exam will be as follows:

Tier-1: 60 minutes (100 questions, 200 marks)

Tier-2: Session-I (2 hours and 15 minutes), Session-II Part A: Skill Test for DEO (15 Minutes), and Session II Part B: Typing Test for LDC/ JSA (10 Minutes)

Moreover, the salary of SSC-CHSL 2024 will be aligned with the pay scale of 7th Pay Commission. Have a look at the pay scale table:

LDC/JSA – Pay level-2 (Rs 19,900 – 63,200)

DEO – Pay level-4 (Rs 25,500 – 81,100) and Pay level-5 (Rs 29,200 – 92,300)

DEO Grade’A’ – Pay level-4 (Rs 25,500 – 81,100)

The last date for online fee payment, challan generation, SSC-CHSL 2024 tier-1 and tier-2 admit cards, SSC-CHSL 2024 tier-1 and tier-2 results, SSC-CHSL 2024 typing test and SSC-CHSL 2024 final result date are yet to be declared. Notedly, the SSC-CHSL tier-1 exam is anticipated to be held during June-July, however the announcement on the dates of SSC-CHSL tier-2 exam is awaited.

Eligibility Criteria

The educational qualifications required vary for specific posts. Here are the educational criteria for different posts:

For Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO)/ DEO Grade ‘A’:

  • Candidates must have completed 12th standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
  • Candidates must be; (a) A citizen of India, (b) A subject of Nepal, (c) A subject of Bhutan, or (d) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, with the intention of permanently settling in India.
