Thousands of students across India are all set for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2024-25 cycle, which begins today, December 31, 2025. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct this test, which is the first step toward getting admission into Indian universities for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), an Assistant Professorship, or a PhD.

The NTA has released a full set of guidelines to make sure that the Computer-Based Test (CBT) for 85 subjects goes seamlessly and fairly.

Important documents and reporting rules

Candidates must have the most important document, the UGC NET Admit Card printed copy, which can be downloaded from the official website (ugcnet.nta.ac.in). The student will also need to have one-


Original photo ID, a government-issued ID that is still valid, such as a Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, or Passport.

A passport size photo: You need to bring at least one recent photo (the same one that you uploaded when you submitted your application form ) for the attendance sheet.

Transparent Ballpoint pen: Some centres provide pens, but candidates should bring their own blue or black pen that is see-through.

PwD certificate: Candidates should bring the original certificate from a qualified authority.

Points to remember

The test will be held in two parts-one in the morning from 9:00 am to 12:00 PM and the other one from 3:00 PM to 6;00 pm. Candidates are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before the exams begin. The gates will close 30 minutes before the start time (8:30 AM for shift 1 and 2:30 PM for shift 2). After that, no one will be allowed to enter.

Dress code that needs to be followed, things which are not allowed

The NTA has set a specific dress code to make it easier for security to check people quickly and maintain the integrity of the exam. Candidates should wear light-cloured, half sleeves clothes that don’t have big buttons, lots of pockets, or heavy embroidery.

Footwear-Shoes with high heels and thick soles are not permitted. Jewellery like earrings, rings, bangles, nose pins and chains are not allowed. Watches (digital or analogue), wallets, belts with big buckles or hats (unless that is for some religious reasons. Electronics devices like smartwatches, calculators , cell phones, and Bluetooth devices are also not allowed.
