With the launch of ‘Channel’ on the messaging app, WhatsApp, many celebrities, companies, and government agencies have started trying their hands on the Channel including the University Grant Commission (UGC). The Indian regulatory body that facilitates teaching, examination, and research in higher studies has come up with a faster mode of communication by opening its channel on WhatsApp.

The aim of the WhatsApp Channel is to develop an informed community of tutors, students, and others by allowing real-time information on new updates on higher studies. The Commission understands the persistent digital divide in society hence, it’s a step forward to minimize the gap in knowledge. The step will deliver authentic updates to interested people with the least time and effort.

The UGC came on X, formerly called Twitter, to announce the new channel of information on WhatsApp and tweeted on Monday, October 16, “We are on WhatsApp! Join UGC India WhatsApp Channel for latest important news related to higher education in India.”

The commission also showed awareness of inclusivity and mentioned WhatsApp’s accessibility to almost everyone in the country as it said, “Recognizing that not everyone may have seamless access to UGC websites or other social media handles, the WhatsApp Channel becomes a powerful tool for reaching a broader audience. In a country as diverse as India, where connectivity varies, this initiative bridges the digital divide and ensures that policy updates on higher education are readily available to all.”

The channel turns into a direct mode for Higher Educational Institutions to stay up to date with regulatory changes, rules, and best practices. Education professionals can gain from current knowledge on curricular changes, assessment techniques, and professional development possibilities. Additionally, students get direct access to important updates on tests, scholarships, and other aspects of their academic path.

The statutory body stated that educators will gain access to real-time information on curriculum changes, assessment techniques, and professional development opportunities through the UGC WhatsApp channel. Students can also check the channel for the most recent information on examinations, scholarships, and other pertinent topics.
