The Max Healthcare Foundation (MHF) has launched the ‘Max Medical Scholarship Programme’ with the goal of eliminating the financial barriers that often obstruct promising students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This initiative is part of MHF’s corporate social responsibility efforts, aimed at nurturing the ambitions of future medical professionals, according to an official release.

MHF claims that, annually, the scholarship will fully cover the medical education expenses of 100 students from economically weaker sections (EWS) who have successfully cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET examination) and secured admission to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme at eight government medical colleges in Delhi for the 2023-24 academic year. Registration for the scholarship opens on February 20, 2024, the release mentioned.

The application period will last for 15 days after the programme’s announcement, followed by a multi-stage selection process including application review, shortlisting, interviews and final selection based on mandatory document submission. A jury from Max Healthcare Foundation will rigorously evaluate candidates based on specific criteria, as per the release.

“Financial constraints can often exclude meritorious students from economically disadvantaged communities to drop out before completing their education. To empower such students. Rooted in our core values of care and compassion, this corporate social responsibility initiative aims to empower the next generation of medical professionals,” Taruna Soi, chairperson, Max Healthcare Foundation, said.

Selected students will receive comprehensive financial assistance throughout their five-year MBBS course. This support includes reimbursement of tuition fees, provision of a personal laptop, essential books and tools such as bone sets, dissection kits and stethoscopes, as well as a monthly living allowance. From the second year onwards, the scholarship will cover tuition fees and monthly expenses for all 100 students until the completion of their MBBS course. However, continued eligibility for the scholarship is contingent upon students participating in regular reviews and assessments, it added.
